About Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake Single Malt Scotch Whisky<\/h2>\n

The inspiration for A Tale of Cake comes from Glenmorangie’s Director of Whisky Creation, Dr. Bill Lumsden. He channeled the happy memories of his daughter’s pineapple upside down cake as well as his grandmother’s baking for this sweet expression. Lumsden decided on Tokaji dessert wine casks for the finishing step that follows initial aging in ex-bourbon casks. The result is a rich and complex limited-edition single malt that pairs surprisingly well with actual cake \u2015 a fact that is reinforced by Dominique Ansel’s creations. The famous pastry chef and inventor of the Cronut (a hybrid between a donut and croissant) has teamed up with Glenmorangie to create various CakeTails \u2015 unique cake and cocktail pairings.<\/p>\n

About Glenmorangie<\/h2>\n

In 1738, a brewery was built upon Morangie Farm in the Highlands region of Scotland. A century later, William Matheson acquired the farm and equipped the Morangie brewery with two stills that he purchased second-hand, and renamed the brewery-converted-distillery Glenmorangie. <\/p>\n

Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made using malted barley, which is mashed and fermented with water sourced from the Tarlogie Spring. The water produced from the spring, which spends nearly a century underground being filtered through layers of limestone before it is extracted, is unusually rich in minerals. In the 1980s, when development in the area threatened the spring’s water quality, Glenmorangie purchased 600 acres of land around and including the spring in order to ensure consistent water quality and adequate supply. <\/p>\n

After the barley has been fermented, the wash is twice distilled through Glenmorangie’s copper-pot stills by a team of 16 distillers known as the Sixteen Men of Tain. Glenmorangie’s stills are equipped with relatively small boiler pots, which increases the exposure of the whisky to the copper, resulting in a more pure flavor. In addition, the stills are nearly seventeen feet tall \u2014 the tallest of any distillery in Scotland \u2014 and as a result, produce a lighter, more refined whisky. <\/p>\n

The nose is complex and rich with passion fruit, peach, pear, and mango, as well as baking bread, oak, and a touch of minerality. The signature Glenmorangie notes are there as well with honeycomb, vanilla, and almonds. The palate has plenty of sweetness with cake-like honey, white chocolate, vanilla, and pear, along with orange and menthol to balance it out.
