About Lock Stock & Barrel 20 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey <\/h2>\n

The origins of rye whiskey in the United States date back to colonial America, when early European settlers brought with them the tradition of distilling excess grains from their farms into whiskey. For over a century, the production of rye whiskey centered around Pennsylvania and Maryland, where large numbers of Scottish and Irish immigrants had settled. The popularity of rye whiskey grew steadily among the colonists, and when the British blockade of American ports during the American Revolutionary War prevented the importation of rum, rye whiskey became America’s drink of choice.<\/p>\n

This release was aged for a whopping 20 years, making it the only US-made rye whiskey of its age on the market at the time of release. Sourced from Alberta Distillers Ltd., the barrels were hand-selected by the late great Robert Cooper, a 3rd-generation distiller who passed away unexpectedly in 2016 at the age of just 39.<\/p>\n

Double-distilled in copper pot stills from a rare mash bill of 100 percent rye grain, the \u201crobust cut\u201d is meticulously hand selected by distillers before being aged in new charred American oak barrels in a cold climate. Its lengthy time in the barrel harmonizes this spirit, avoiding being over-oaked due to the climate, lack of toasting, and 3.5 barrel char. The opaque black bottle protects the 112-proof spirit from light exposure, giving it a striking appearance.<\/p>\n

About Rye<\/h2>\n

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there\u2019s no way of denying its origin.
It\u2019s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.<\/p>\n

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.<\/p>\n
