About GlenDronach 21 Year Old Parliament Scotch Whisky<\/h2>\n

GlenDronach\u2019s Parliament release is aged for at least 21 years in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez (PX) sherry casks. \u2018Parliament\u2019 is a term to describe a particular group of birds. This rich expression has been named \u2018Parliament\u2019 after the colony, or \u2018parliament\u2019, of rooks that have been nesting in the trees that overlook the GlenDronach distillery for almost 200 years. Rooks are a member of the crow family, with silky blue black feathers and social temperaments. This Parliament release continues a legacy of traditional fruit-laden whiskies. With \u201cResolute flavours of fine Oloroso sherry and bitter chocolate\u2026\u201d the single malt won a Double Gold Medal at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. About The Glendronach<\/h2>\n

The year is 1826, the Temperance Society had just been formed in Boston, Beethoven\u2019s Quartet No. 13 is premiered in Vienna, the combustable engine is being patented, and deep within the Scottish Highlands, in the land of peat and bagpipes, the GlenDronach distillery is being born. GlenDronach got its start shortly after the Excise Act of 1823, when James Allardice became the second person to apply for a license to distill Whisky in Scotland. Ever since, the iconic Scottish distillery has been under the ownership of several well known names in Scotch, namely; Walter Scott, Captain Charles Grant, and William Teacher and Sons. <\/p>\n

The distillery is located near Forgue, by Huntly, Aberdeenshire, in the Speyside region, and is currently owned by BenRiach. GlenDronach survived many set-backs, including a fire in 1836 that nearly destroyed the entire facility. Their floor malting was also halted in 1996, and the distillery was mothballed. The distillery experienced a near complete overhaul when giant Pernod Ricard acquired them in 2005. They converted the last of the Scottish coal-fired stills to indirect steam-heated coils. GlenDronach was the last of the remaining distilleries using the method at this time. <\/p>\n

On the nose is a delicate mix of ripe autumnal fruits – notably blackberries and red plums. Rich Oloroso sherry and candied orange segments. Spiced oatmeal biscuits and toasted oak fragrances bring excellent weight and balance. On the palate are flavors of Oloroso sherry and bitter chocolate sauce, which has been spread liberally over homemade plum pudding. This is all infused with fabulous spicy notes – cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg.
